The studies carried out in the animal biotechnology laboratory are carried out within the scope of the legal permits taken by the “Ethics Committee for Animal Experiments and General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks”.
The research is about animals in their natural habitat, which is related to three different fields such as molecular, genetic and ecological. Molecular mechanisms developed against stress factors such as heavy metal, drought, habitat degradation in the ecological environment are being investigated at DNA, Gene, Protein level. At the same time, the precautions to be taken against the human-caused elements that threaten animals are among the objectives of conservation and maintenance of natural life. In our laboratories, the basic steps for the establishment of cDNA libraries have been established in order to ensure the preservation and sustainability of our genetic resources and the genetic information of some species has been stored.
Allover the Turkey Noah’s Ark National Biodiversity projects across our university have contributed to Animal Biotechnology Laboratory. Cytogenetic and molecular-based projects to determine the phylogenetic relationships of Turkey’s mammal fauna made, investigations are still continuing. The ecological investigations about pollutants in coastal waters of Turkey, causing DNA damage in living marine depending on the accumulation of heavy metals, are among researches based on the ecologically and biologically.
