Research Interest

The studies carried out in the animal genetics laboratory are accomplished within the scope of the legal permits taken by the “Ethics Committee for Animal Experiments and General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks”. The research is generally about animals in their natural habitat, which covers three different fields, molecular, genetic and ecological. Molecular mechanisms developed against stress factors such as heavy metal, drought, habitat degradation in the ecological environment are being investigated at DNA, gene, and protein level. At the same time, the precautions to be taken against the anthropogenic elements threatening animals, conservation and maintenance of natural life are among the targets of our laboratory. In our laboratory, the basic steps for the creation of cDNA libraries have been established in order to ensure the preservation and sustainability of our genetic resources. In addition, the genetic information of some animal species has been stored. Our laboratory contributed to the Turkey Noah’s Ark National Biodiversity project launched across Turkey. Furthermore, cytogenetic and molecular investigations to determine the phylogenetic relationships of Turkey mammal fauna are among the ongoing projects. In this, the DNA damage occurring in marine animals due to the heavy metal accumulation in coastal waters and the ecological examination of environmental pollutants are among the ecological and biological research projects.
