Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a discipline concerned with  development of manufacturing methods to turn  raw materials into useful products  in the direction of human needs.  Moreover, it deals with atomic, nano, micro, meso and macro structural characterization of materials in order to investigate and improve materials properties. The aim of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering program is to train students who have extensive knowledge on materials fabrication methods, materials properties, materials choice, application of materials and materials development to meet the demand for qualified man power in our country.

Our department was oficially founded in 2015 and accepted first students in 2015-2016 academic year. Regular period of study is 4 years in our department; however, students may register one year preliminary English courses. Our department has 9 stuff member including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 5 assistant professors and 2 research assistants. Their area of specialization covers many topics such as ceramic based diesel particular filters, advanced ceramic materials for cutting tools, energy storage materials, biomaterials, two dimensional materials, extractive metallurgy, and hydrometallurgy and so on.

Our department offers fundamental engineering  and materials engineering courses as well as theoretical courses regarding the design and manufacturing of engineering materials. In addition, our department aims to be assertive in applied education and the infastructure of our department is continually improved in this regard.  Furthermore, Central Research Laboratory, which is equipped with high tech devices for materials testing and characterization, is effectively used by our academic staff within their academic studies.  As a result of  our emphasis on applied education, to be effective in 2018-2019 academic year, students will be required to take job training in the last semester as a part of 7+1 program in addition to 40 days internship. After finishing their 4 years degree, our graduates can be employed in sectors listed below:

  • Conventional ceramic manufacturing
  • Aviation
  • Automotive
  • Manufacturing metallurgy
  • Glass and refractor manufacturing
  • Machine manufacturing industry
  • Metal casting industry
  • Non-ferrous matal production industry
  • Research and development centers
